What is Perlane®?

What is it?

Perlane® is a dermal filler which is injected into the facial skin to correct wrinkles and depressions. The substance which makes up Perlane is composed of hyaluronic acid in the form of a crystal clear gel. It is not animal-based and is free from animal proteins. Manufactured and marketed by Medicis Aesthetics, makers of Restylane®, often Perlane is used in conjunction with Restylane.

What does it treat?

Perlane is generally used to improve wrinkles and creases on the face and to enhance the volume and size of lips. It may be used on moderate to severe wrinkles and folds.

Perlane Treatment & Side Effects

As with all dermal fillers, Perlane is injected under the skin utilizing a needle. Topical aesthetic may be applied by your physician prior to treatment. Allergy testing prior to treatment is not necessary with Perlane.

Following the injection, some swelling and redness may occur as well as some associated pain. This typically does not last longer than a week. Should any side effect last longer, call your doctor. If you have herpes, the injections may trigger a flare up, so talk to your doctor. Another rare side effect is the occurrence of red bumps around the injection site. Also if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or on blood thinners, you shouldn't have Perlane injected.

How long does it last?

As with any dermal filler, longevity of Perlane will vary based on the patient, however average results last approximately 6 months.

Do the injections hurt?

Perlane is injected with an ultrafine needle and the pain is similar to that of any needle injection. If you are concerned with pain, discuss with your doctor the use of a topical anesthetic.

Cost?

Perlane costs may range from $300 to $700 per syringe depending on how much volume is needed for treatment.
