What is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)?

IPL can effectively treat brown and age spotting
Light is transmitted to the skin
Light damages aged skin cells, inducing body's healing process
New cells replace the damaged ones

What IPL Treats

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a technology often used in treating skin discolorations and wrinkling associated with sun damage. Brown spotting and some redness are also commonly treated with IPL. It may also help improve some rosacea and acne.

How IPL Works

A hand piece is placed on the area of the skin to be treated and a broad spectrum of light is transmitted to the skin. The light from the hand piece then penetrates into the skin and is absorbed by melanin or blood vessels. The surface layers of the skin are left intact while the deeper layers are treated. The heat from the light source improves skin tone and texture and reduces melanin pigment in the skin such as 'age spots'.

Treatment

IPL treatments may last between 20 and 30 minutes and involve little pain. Because the treatment leaves the surface skin intact there is also no downtime and you may return to work and normal activity immediately after the treatment. Some after treatment effects may include some redness and swelling which will fade. Several treatment sessions may be needed in order to see maximum results.

Alternative Laser Treatments Include: Laser Skin Resurfacing, Fractional Laser Resurfacing, IPL, Radiofrequency Rejuvenation, Plasma Skin Regeneration or Injectables/ Dermal Fillers.
