What are Cosmoderm® and Cosmoplast®?

Cosmoderm® is better for fine lines along the upper and lower lip areas
Cosmoplast® is well suited for deeper wrinkles
Results last for up to three months
   Results are immediate

What is it?

Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast are dermal fillers made from highly purified human collagen. Collagen is a protein which comprises the majority of skin (minus water-weight). As we age and our skin receives more sun damage, it loses its smoothness and fullness, the collagen in our skin becomes degraded, and our skin looks less healthy.

Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast may be used by your physician to treat fine lines, wrinkles, and scars. In my opinion Cosmoderm is appropriate for superficial fine lines, such as the upper or lower lip areas. They were FDA approved in 2003.

Cosmoplast is well suited for deeper wrinkles. Both Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast contain lidocaine, an anesthetic, which numbs the skin at the site of injection.

Allergy Testing not Required

Allergy skin testing is not required prior to receiving treatment with Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast. People with lidocaine allergies should not be treated with Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast.

When will I see results?

You will typically see results immediately following the injection of Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast. The injections are inserted directly below the surface of the skin, in the skin's collagen layer.

How long do the results last?

Generally the results of Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast will be seen for three months and following that, touch-up treatments may be required.

Side Effects

There may be temporary swelling or redness for one to three days. As with most injectables, bruising may also occur which may last up to a week. Temporary puffiness around the treatment site should be expected. If any side effects that last more than several days, you should contact your doctor.

People with known allergies to lidocaine or a history of serious allergic reactions should also not use Cosmoderm or Cosmoplast.

Other Treatments for Aging Skin Include: Laser Skin Resurfacing, Fractional Laser Resurfacing, IPL, Radiofrequency Rejuvenation, Plasma Skin Regeneration or Injectables/ Dermal Fillers.
